02-01 / “A” is for “Ava”
Ava “TANK” Flave arrived on Iki in August of 2009. Her excessively blonde hair and blue eyes made her stand out in Japan from the beginning, and this was accentuated by her penchant for running whenever she can, screaming out slang for “Breasts!” at the top of her lungs, and, well, being a tank. (It’s a tough job.) We’ve bonded over baking cookies and the excellent TV shows that are Glee and Avatar: the Last Airbender.
But underneath the wackiness is a profoundly sensitive person and an excellent friend. She’s good at both laughing and listening. She’s willing to try new, maybe a wee bit dangerous, things. She’s not afraid of making difficult choices. She stands up for what she believes in, and supports well-thought out decisions from others, even if she doesn’t necessarily agree with them. And she really likes to cross-country ski. (Iki, surprisingly enough, is not such a good place for this.)
She’s also the Token Canadian.
Tank, I’m glad you came to Japan. I’m super glad you came to Iki. And I’m especially glad that you became my friend.
