02-06 / “F” is for “Flood Lights”
Ava and I got to Katsumoto a little early for our fan dancing practice Saturday morning, so we went down to the harbor to walk around and get some food. It was an absolutely gorgeous day–clear blue sky that let you see for miles, perfect, calm ocean water–everything you could want. Except the wind was terrible! After a mere ten minutes my ears were freezing and aching and I couldn’t feel my fingers.
In any case, I got a couple nice pictures of the harbor. The two bulbs you see hanging over the boat here are the lights used to catch squid, as seen here (01-03 blog). Pretty amazing that something so bright can come from something so little. Of course, most of the other boats had more bulbs on them, too. Makes you wonder what it must be like on the boat–full daylight? Do they have to wear special glasses to protect their eyes? Do they even walk around on the top, or just hang out under deck?
Ah, so much I don’t know about fishing and my lovely island.
