After my brief discussion of sakura mochi in “yesterday’s” picture (<–clickable!), I decided that I wanted to eat some. And then I decided that I wanted to show them to you fine folks. So that’s what I did.
The leaf is syrupy, and yes, it’s an actual cherry blossom tree leaf. I believe that the pink of the rice is done with ground sakura blossoms, but I could be crazy, and it might just be food coloring. Then the inside is “anko,” or red-bean paste. One of my favorite Japanese sweets. Behind the mochi is some pineapple. I [heart] pineapple.
This was my post-dinner dessert, in case you were wondering.
