I spent most of this Saturday playing video games (beat Dragon Age : Awakening!), but I finally left my house around 8 o’clock to go to the beach for my very first Iki bonfire! TANK’s boyfriend, ET, is a very good camper because of all the time he’s spent paddling around Canada, so he made us a blazing bonfire of glory! (ET has been on Iki for about three weeks, and is leaving this coming Thursday to go lead a paddling trip in the Yukon up to the Arctic Ocean. It’s fifty days. They’re carrying all their supplies. No, I’m not kidding.)
I had a great time burning excess teaching materials and moldy pillows, especially when several of the Tsushima ALTs arrived to join us. They were great fun, and lots of laughter and loud, terrible singing of “Free Falling!” ensued. The only bad part was a creepy stray cat whose eyes were all diseased and couldn’t breathe well because, well, it’s diseased. I felt bad every time I yelled at it to shoo, but that’s the way life goes sometimes.
