2010 – Iki-shi, Nagasaki-ken, Japan, Earth

09-28

Genius of epic proportions.Natsume Soseki is my favorite Japanese author (he’s also credited as the man who brought the novel to Japan).  I read this book, Kokoro, for my Modern Japan class in college.  It’s a little ironic that he’s on the 1000 yen bill (the old 1000 yen bill) because there are some strong anti-materialistic themes in many of his novels.

In any case, the Soseki 1000 yen bill is pretty rare (not as rare as the 2000 yen bill, though), so I was super excited when I got one at the grocery store.

Oh wow—I had a few of them when I visited Tokyo last year! The airport in Houston, TX gave them to me. I should have kept at least one. I was curious who guy on the bill was and looked it up later.

Really? They went out of circulation awhile ago. But I’m glad I finally got one. I feel like I should frame it or something.
